These sort of gross me out, they look like they have chicken pox or something. |
It has been one of those weeks. Well one of those months. Forget it, it has been one of those years! I feel like every week we are just trying to get through to the next and I keep saying "once this busy week is done we can relax." And we never do. It is what, June now? Where did the rest of the year go already!
So it is with this in mind that I wanted to make something really quick and easy. I am sort of getting into a routine with the two jobs and my blog, and my life. I want to spend time with Pork Chop, but not so much that I end up killing him. I mean really, he is cute, but when he washes his hands in my bathroom, and I go in to find the whole mirror covered in soap foam and he is all " I was just washing my hands."
There are times when I wished I drank.
A lot.
My very complex set up. |
And then there is hubby. I sort of like him, and want to spend time with him. Alone. But our alone time just turns into me falling asleep or him falling asleep. And he snores really loud, so I cannot even read or watch TV when he does that. At least when I sleep I am quiet. I swear, I don't snore any more. And don't bother asking hubby, he will lie.
My stubby little fingers, in an action shot. And it is in focus, yeah me! |
So when we had a rare night for all three of use to be together I was all "Let's go out and do something active!" And Pork Chop was all "let's play X Box." And hubby was all "I'm so tired!" And I was all "I think I could just go for a nap." Because by this point I had sat down and my body refused to get back up. So we compromised. I ran to the store for some hamburger buns for diner while hubby BBQ'd some of his home made ham burgers. And Pork Chop ate his diner really fast so we could play.
That is two in focus in a row, it may be a record for me. |
So at the store I saw that the strawberries looked really nice and I grabbed them thinking I could just do some chocolate dipped ones and call it a blog post. And if you are actually reading this, you will notice I have written like 5 paragraphs and not mentioned them yet.
I have to draw this out some how, as obviously chocolate covered strawberries don't take many steps. So that is what I did, I dipped some strawberries while Pork Chop and Hubby played X box connect and I stopped to watch as I ate a few. Then I played and it was all good.
That is a little bowl of chocolate covered rice puff pearl thingies. I ate what I had left in the bowl, so good! |
So without further adu! Chocolate covered strawberries!
I know, it's been done, but I bet none have looked as gross as mine! That is not something I should be proud of right?
Okay and at this point I must point out if Hubby was not home I would have used chopped nuts. But since I didn't want to kill him, at least that night, I used something else. |
So basically, you are going to take a strawberry, and dip it in chocolate. I know right?! How I come up with these things is beyond me.
So to start I wash my strawberries, and lay them out on paper towel to dry. You want to get as much water off as possible or else it will ruin your chocolate. So, once they are dry you want to get your chocolate melted. I was in a rush or else I would have done white chocolate. I just melted my candy wafers in a glass bowl in the microwave and then set up my table.
And there you go. And did you know you are not supposed to keep them in the fridge as they sweat. Well I did, but I did it anyway, I am a rebel like that. |
I lay out a sheet of parchment paper and whatever toppings I want. Now if I had done white chocolate I would have used sprinkles or sanding sugar, but I wanted to do these in like 5 minutes so did not want to deal with melting and thinning the chocolate. Also I wanted some texture on them, and since hubby was home it could not be nuts. That would be really good, like ground almonds or something. Anyway as it was I grabbed the chocolate covered rice puff's I had. I figured it would be great.
So I take a strawberry by the stem and dip it in the chocolate and shake off the extra, then roll it in the topping. After doing this about 10 times I realized my strawberries looked sort of gross. I mean they tasted great, but they looked like, I don't know, bugs or something. So I did the last few in just chocolate.
They set up very quickly and I put them in containers and keep them in the fridge. I tried 1, or 4, and they tasted really good. The crunch of the rice puffs was really nice. I think if I did it that way again I would finish them with a drizzle of white chocolate to make them not look as gross.
Anyway, there is the worlds longest post, ever, about chocolate covered strawberries. I think it took me longer to type this than it did to make them.
